Temporary Visitor Visas
If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident, you can apply for a temporary visitor visa for your parents so that they can join you. They can also be sponsored for permanent residence later. The visitor Subclass 600 is an inexpensive alternative to the non-contributary visa, which can have lengthy processing times. With longer validity periods, the visitor visa enables an extended stay of up to 12 months in 18 months.
Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa
Eligible New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia can apply for Subclass 870 or temporary sponsorship for their parents for up to 3 or 5 years. This is also a required alternative for permanent parent visa options when you don’t meet the balance family test.

AoS or Assurance of Support - required for the permanent category visa Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens having spent at least 2 years in Australia Must pass the Balance of Family test, where half of the applicant’s children must be permanent residents of Australia
